SB Womxn's

Hi there!

We are the Cambridge University’s women’s and non-binary Ultimate team. Anyone who identifies as a woman or otherwise feels that competing in the women’s division is most appropriate for them can join our squad. You are welcome to attend our training no matter your level of experience, whether you’ve never played or even heard of the game before or you’re a seasoned Ultimate veteran!

We have 1.5 outdoor practices per week (Tuesday evenings and alternating Fridays) which last 2h, with additional skills sessions for beginners on Saturdays, and one 2h indoor session on Thursdays. Outdoor sessions are open to all and indoor sessions will take on an invite-only format, where everyone who registers interest will get a chance to play.

We compete outdoors in the BUCS league with 3 Saturday fixtures spread over Michaelmas and Lent terms, through which we qualify for Nationals (split into divisions 1 and 2). BUCS team selections will be made 2-3 weeks before a tournament.

We also play at the UKU University indoor tournaments where we will be entering two teams and everyone gets to play competitive Ultimate. To compete with us you are required to be a registered student at the University of Cambridge.

Lastly, we want to introduce our mascot, Huck the Lion:

Huck comes to tournaments with us and is passed between our players who are voted the most spirited!

Looking forward to playing with you!

SB Open

Welcome to the Cambridge University Ultimate Open team! Our team usually consists all of men, however there are no gender restrictions so anyone can join!

Most of our team has prior experience playing ultimate, however there is often movement of players from the second team up to the firsts, so we welcome everyone to trial even if you don’t have much or any previous experience playing ultimate.

We take pride in being a very welcoming, extremely positive, and well-spirited team - which is an important aspect of ultimate as it is a self-refereed sport.

We compete in league 1 of the ultimate BUCS league (which takes place on Wednesdays with 2-4 fixtures per term) and we also compete in the UKU university indoor tournaments.

We train once per week, so not very high commitment, and we have socials every term with the rest of the university ultimate teams. Ultimate is a super fun sport which is very beginner friendly but also provides great progression, as many of our players have played for club teams and competed in club nationals. We have even had players compete for GB and other national teams!

Fill in the SB Open Expression of Interest form to join!

We hope to see you soon playing ultimate, the SBO1 captains,
Magnus, Luke, and Zaid!

SB Open 2

Hi everyone! We’re the Cambridge University Ultimate Open 2nd team! While the 1st team is invite-only, the 2nd team welcomes players of all abilities, especially those new to the sport or playing College League.

SBO2 competes in the BUCS Men’s Midlands Outdoors Division 2, with many members also competing in University Men’s Indoor Tournaments held in Michaelmas term. Weekly trainings are held on Tuesday 6-8pm at Homerton, which focus on fundamentals, while BUCS matches occur roughly every month, so there are plenty of opportunities for learning and game-time!

Our main goals are to help less-experienced players feel more comfortable with the disc, but most importantly to have fun! Almost everyone in the team (including your captains) picked up the sport when they joined Cambridge, so we all understand how scary it can be. Nonetheless, we’re all here to help you on your frisbee journey, and to enjoy playing Ultimate along the way!

If you’re interested, feel free to message either of us if you have any questions.

SB Mixed

In the mixed division, woman-matching and man-matching players play on the same line, half-half. There is no mixed BUCS league, but we play indoor regionals in Michaelmas, as well as Varsity as well as – hopefully – indoor nationals in Lent, and outdoor nationals in late June. Mixed Ultimate adds an additional layer of tactics and skills into the game, and is overall great fun!

The mixed squad is typically formed from the Open and Womxn's teams. Apart from selective indoor trainings once a week, we won't run specific mixed trainings in Michaelmas. Later in the year, we will have squad trainings once a week.

SBX Captain,
Clare
