College League

What is College League?

College league is a mildly competitive and super-friendly league that runs throughout term time. It is designed to be fun and accessible to beginners while providing an opportunity for intermediate players to work on a wide variety of their skills. The venue is agreed upon by the respective college captains and announced to their teams.

Can I play?

Yes, you can! You don't need to be a current Uni of Cambridge student to join (see non-student teams and eligibility rules below).

If you're a 6th form student, please join Hills Road. We ask any other players who are under 18 or otherwise require safeguarding arrangements to get in touch to discuss their participation.

College league teams are independent entities, who may restrict membership. We expect and require good spirit from players in our college league.

Which team should I join?

For new players, the associations of colleges & teams are just suggestions - if you have some friends at another college, or their practice times are more suitable for you, there's no problem with your training and playing with the team of your choice. There are also some non-student teams, see below!

If you're unsure who to contact, contact the league organiser, Chris Hew (ch938).

Rules for College League

The rules for these games are the WFDF 2021 rules, with the following differences:

Mixed rule

Let 'Endzone X' be the endzone in which the team who begins the game on offence begins. For each point, the team starting in Endzone X chooses how many woman-matching players to play. This team chooses whether to field two, three, or more woman-matching players. The defence must at least match this number, and forfeits a player for each woman-matching player they are short. However, if the team choosingplays 4 or more woman-matching players, assume that they are only playing 3 for the purposes of this rule (i.e., if the team in Endzone X plays between 3 and 7, the opposing team can play 3 woman-matching players without penalty, or 2 woman-matching players with a 1-player penalty).

Hard Cap at 13 points

This means that game is over as soon as a team scores their thirteenth point. Half time is at 7 points.

60 minute time limit

Time runs from when the first "pull" of the match is released. When the time limit is reached, someone calls out "Time" loudly so that everyone playing can hear. Continue playing until the next point is scored.

1 point Soft Cap

After "Time" has been called, and the point finished, add 1 point to the highest score. Continue playing points; the game finishes when one team reaches this target.

Timeouts

Each team has a single two-minute timeout per half

Team composition

Fielding fewer than 5 players is an automatic forfeit. No more than 2 non-students may be fielded at once by either team (with certain exceptions as outlined by the League Organiser).
