Thursdays - Mixed Indoors Practice
10pm - 11pm
Kelsey Kerridge
Expected Skill Level: Experienced
Mixed Indoor Practice is for those who wish to play at University Mixed Indoor Regionals (and hopefully Nationals too). The main aim will be to work on indoor throws and tactics for experienced players. Coming to these practices should ensure you get game-time at Regionals.
Fridays - Student Open Practice
6pm - 8pm
Abbey Pools Astro
These practices will be focused at beginning the preparation for the major tournaments of the student open calendar next term. It is absolutely NOT the idea to close these practices off to experienced players only, but it is expected that those coming along will have already attended Saturday or Sunday practices this term. As attendance is limited, should you wish to come along, please email either Sam (sdt37) or Adam (ajm269) beforehand. Experienced townies are welcome to come along, but note that priority will be given to students.
Fridays - Womens' Astro Practice
7pm - 9pm
The Cass Centre
Expected Skill Level: Any
All skills are welcome. Women who have only ever played college league are particularly encouraged. Come along and get better at ultimate in a testosterone-free environment. Plus, you get to play ultimate on a lush, floodlit astro pitch! Result. Costs £5.00 for two hours.
Sundays - Main Practice and Pickup
11am - 12:30pm followed by pickup and the pub
Jesus Green
Expected Skill Level: Any
The big Cambridge love-in of a practice for everyone. The level is aimed to be useful for anyone who rocks up with some boots and a desire to run, so wander on by (however experienced, or not, you are).
Bring the usual (light/dark/disc/water/cleats), and be ready to start the warmup amble around the pitch at 11 on the dot. If you want to throw beforehand turn up earlier!
Followed by pickup from 12:30pm, and then the traditional argument about whether anyone wants to go to the pub.
Rob's Shiny New Throwing Sessions
Tuesdays and Fridays 7.10am - 8:10am
Jesus Green
Expected Skill Level: Any (and all)
Because we're so busy at practices talking about the structural side of our offence and defence and getting ourselves used to playing together, we often just don't have the time to go right back to basics. That's why throwing sessions like these are so important. Improving your throwing ability is such a fundamental part of being a better Ultimate player. Anyone and everyone, whether you're a handler or a deep receiver, should be throwing a little, a lot. KFT is a great way of gaining consistency but also finding throws you didn't know you had. If we can throw better than everyone else, we can play better, so try this out alongside the usual practices and fitness sessions.
In summary, if you want to get better at throwing, you achieve that here, not at training. Mikey, Dom, Brooksie and I have done two sessions now and my pivots and throws are already more stable and consistent.
Logistics: This session runs best with even numbers so everyone has a partner. As such we will have a spreadsheet to sign up for each session. If you are an odd number sign up (e.g. 7) then it is your responsibility to check back to see if another person makes it evens (8), and then ensure you attend. But be sensible and if you are signing up as say number 12 at midnight the night before the session, then make sure the number 11 person knows (ring them), as it is pretty late to expect them to check their emails. Sweet. Sound complicated but it's essentially common sense.
Also everyone bring a disc, water, and warm clothes, as it is frikken freezing at the moment. I advise a glove for your non throwing hand, a hat and long sleeved tops to keep your wrists as warm as possible.

Fitness
Various times and places
People are doing fitness in little groups all over the place. If you're interested in boosting weights or ruining your legs with plyos, try emailing camdisc and asking for a buddy-in-pain.
